Last week, Winifred Dell Care Home’s Bank Activity Coordinator, Tom, decided to brighten up everyone’s afternoon with a pet session.
He took the home’s two rabbits around to the people that live on the upper floors for an afternoon of petting. He was hoping that this would give the rabbits some much needed attention, whilst also providing the residents with something soft and calming to stroke.
Flopsy, the home’s Dwarf Lop Ear rabbit is currently shedding her winter coat, so she had to be placed on a blanket when passed around the residents. The other rabbit, Peter, is also shedding his, but because he is a Siberian short hair, they did not need to make the same accommodations.
The residents agreed that they were both such lovely rabbits and so fun to play with. Peter was a little more excitable and fidgety, whereas Flopsy was more laid back and suited to lots of cuddles and attention. So there truly was something for everyone.
The session with the rabbits allowed for a great point of discussion, with many reminiscing on pets that they had had in the past. The people living at the home always love spending time with pets, and we’re sure that the pets love it just as much!
