Last week, the residents of Okeley Care Home were delighted when opera singer, Samantha Hay was invited to perform a socially distanced performance at the home.
Whilst visitation has been limited over the course of the last few months, those living at the care home have enjoyed tuning into to live sessions and virtual performances using tablet devices at the homes. This has helped to keep spirits up and made access to the sessions easier for those spending time in their rooms, but everyone has missed the buzz of live performances with their usual entertainers.
When Samantha arrived, she set up a space in the garden where the residents could see her from the lounge area. They sat in seats and looked out of the double doors so they could maintain a distance whilst enjoying the sounds of her operatic vocals.
From lively Jazz to classical music, Samantha covered many genres and showed just how versatile her voice was.
Everyone was impressed with the range of music she performed and how talented she was. During the performance, residents enjoyed singing along to the songs they knew and moving in time to the music.
It was a really enjoyable afternoon that helped to boost wellbeing at the home. Residents love these types of performances and were very happy to see the return of live music at the home.
We look forward to continuing these distanced live performances and enjoying the wellbeing benefits of sing-along sessions at the home.
