The people living at Queen’s Oak Care Home recently celebrated National Pen Pal Day by writing to their friends and sharing letters with loved ones.
The team at Queen’s Oak encourage residents to build relationships with people in the outside world and communicate regularly with them by taking part in schemes like Postcards of Kindness. This invites care homes to share their address details on a Facebook page, so individuals who are part of the group can write people postcards from wherever they are.
This has been very successful, and residents have enjoyed writing and receiving letters from people around the world.
National Pen Pal Day encouraged residents at the home to write to these people they have formed relationships with as well as their friends and family, as a written note is more special than one written on the computer, they said.
Julia, a resident of Queen’s Oak, said she was going to use the day to write letters to her friends about how much they mean to her. The weather outside was beautiful, so Julia decided to sit in the sun as she wrote her letters.
After writing her letters, Julia posted them in the letterbox and said she cannot wait to get responses back!
