Last week, the people living at Queens Oak Care Home in London received their first YOPEY newsletter of 2022!
YOPEY Befriender is a community group that connects young volunteers with people living in Care Homes. Through YOPEY, the people living in our homes are able to talk and share with the younger generation, making new friends and encouraging intergenerational connection. They also send the homes newsletters, summarising some of the activities across the YOPEY befriender scheme.
When the newsletter arrived, the team passed it around, letting everyone have a read of the wonderful stories. The people living at the home spent time discussing the different ones and looking at all of the pictures. One of the most popular pieces was a digital drawing of the Queen, which inspired a hearty conversation about her upcoming platinum jubilee.
There were also a lot of fantastic pieces about different subjects, including hopes and dreams, crocheting, and stories of past Christmas memories. This led to a beautiful reminiscence session, in which everyone shared their own Christmas memories, hopes and dreams.
The people living and working at Queens Oak would like to say thank you to the young people involved in YOPEY for keeping them busy! They had a lot of fun reading and told some great memories, and they look forward to the next issue of the newsletter.
