The residents of Winifred Dell Care Home in Brentwood recently enjoyed a petting afternoon with their interactive animals.
Flash, Rascal, Pip, and Lucky are interactive cats and dogs that respond to touch with movement and noises. Not only do they mimic the company of real animals, but also help to provide companionship, encourage reminiscence, and are a calming influence on the people living at Winifred Dell. Spending time petting and chatting to the pets is well enjoyed and everyone loves time spent in their company.
This recent petting afternoon allowed residents throughout the home to spend time with these interactive animals. Some people prefer dogs and others prefer cats, so each resident could decide which one they wanted to have on their laps.
Winifred, who lives at the care home, decided to spend some time with one of the interactive dogs. She sat smiling with the dog on her lap as she stroked and spoke to him in a calming way. The dog responded with head movements, blinking, and noises which was pleasing for Winifred and she said he looked very real.
Although these pets aren’t real, the way they interact is pleasing for the residents and everyone enjoyed the afternoon petting them.
When life returns to normality and restrictions are further lifted, the team at Winifred Dell hope they can welcome real animals again to spend time with the residents.
