The people living at Park Avenue Care Home in Bromley honoured our late Queen Elizabeth II this week by making crispy chocolate cakes.
After her tragic passing on 8th September, people living in Excelcare homes have been honouring her life in a variety of different ways/ Minute silences, artwork and dedicated memorials are just some of the things that our homes have done.
When researching more about the Queen’s life, the people living at Park Avenue saw that one of the Queen’s favourite cakes was a crispy chocolate cake, so to honour her life, they decided to make small Rice Krispie cupcakes.
The cakes were very simple to make so people needed little guidance in doing this. Whilst mixing the Rice Krispies with the melted chocolate, residents spoke about her life, achievements and their memories of her.
It was an emotional session, but one that was also filled with positive moments they had witnessed during Her Majesty’s 70-year reign.
After cakes had been made and left to set, one person said it would be nice to attach pictures of the Queen to small cocktail sticks and put them in the cakes. Everyone agreed this was a brilliant idea, so they went about printing pictures from her childhood, all the way up to recent times and placed them in the cakes they made.
When the cakes were served to team members and residents around the home, the pictures helped to bring back memories of her life and made people feel like they were enjoying one of the Queen’s favourite snacks in her presence.
Residents said it was a lovely way to remember the life of Her Majesty.
