Park Avenue Care Home in Bromley has been named as ‘highly commended’ for its involvement in the National Day of Arts in Care Homes this year.
Park Avenue Care Home is committed to hosting a variety of activities and events that encourage residents to take part in different art forms. From arts and crafts and creative drawing to welcoming performing arts acts on a regular basis.
Not only are these types of activities enjoyed by residents of Park Avenue they also offer a range of benefits to each person’s wellbeing and mood.
When the plans for National Day of Arts in Care Homes was released earlier this year and the theme ‘reflections’ was announced, the team began planning to ensure there were a variety of different way people could engage with it.
The first activity they decided to do, was to invite a portrait artist into the care home to create residents’ reflections in graphite form. Artist, Paul Cruz was invited to create the portraits, and residents were invited to take part. Each person was excited to sit for their portrait as many had never had it done before. The session made residents feel like royalty as for many, the only portrait drawings they had seen were of notable figures and the royal family.
This session had a profound impact on each resident, and they were all delighted to walk away with a hand-drawn photo of their reflection.
During the rest of the week leading up to National Day of Arts in Care Homes, the team hosted a variety of different reflection-themed activities involving clay, crocheting and meditation to name a few!
Because of their commitment to the arts and eagerness to participate, Park Avenue was recently awarded ‘highly commended’ for the work they did with residents for National Day of Arts in Care Homes.
The team is very proud of this achievement and will continue to introduce new, engaging art forms to the people who live at Park Avenue.
