National Cake Day is celebrated annually on the 26th November and this year, Park Avenue Care Home decided to take part in it by selling homemade cakes!
The kitchen team made a delightful selection of cakes which included orange muffins, coconut sponge, banana bread and a variety of other delectable treats.
On the day, the team set up a stand outside the front of the care home, complying with social distancing rules and PPE guidelines. Friends, relatives and members of the local community were invited down to buy a cake and help Park Avenue raise money to purchase smart TV’s.
Throughout the pandemic, the team at the home have seen the importance of technology and how new advancements make it easier for residents to stay connected with their families in the outside world. These smart TV’s have a range of capabilities that would allow video calls to be streamed onto the TV and also enhance entertainment.
After the word spread locally, many people came to support the cause and pick up some of the tasty cakes they had on sale.
After a couple of hours, the home managed to raise £800 for the comfort fund to go towards their TV’s. On top of this, a donor who wishes to remain anonymous stopped by and generously donated an extra £1,000! The team were blown away and were overwhelmed with the support they received from the local community.
The cake sale was a huge success and with the money raised, the team have managed to purchase 3 smart tv’s (one per care suite) so everyone can experience the benefits of upgraded technology.
We look forward to seeing the memories and moments these devices help to create!
