The people living at Aliwal Manor Care Home in Cambridge have a number of family pets to look after and really enjoy loving and caring for them.
Recently, they were greeted with a wonderful surprise when they went out to feed the chickens and found that a baby chick had just been born! The chick belonged to proud mum Elizabeth, who has been a chicken at the home for nearly four years now.
Everybody at the home got to work thinking of a name for the baby chick. After some deliberation, it was ultimately decided that the chick should be called Ann, as Ann was the first of the residents to spot the chick in the first place.
Ann was incredibly flattered by this. You will now quite often find Ann looking at the baby chick and talking to her, to make sure that she is flourishing.
Now, a few days later, it appears that another chick is about to hatch. Elizabeth has laid over half a dozen eggs, so everybody has been waiting and checking to see how many of those will hatch into small chicks.
It certainly has put a new buzz around Aliwal Manor and prompted many conversations about new beginnings and hope for the future.
