The people living at Winifred Dell Care Home recently enjoyed making memory boxes with their loved ones during a Memory Café session hosted at the care home.
The Memory Café is a monthly event, that invites residents, their loved ones, and members of the community who live with memory loss to join like-minded others and engage in activities, whilst making some friends in the process. People who attend the Memory Café attend completely for free and are offered to join residents for exciting day trips to local attractions and sample some of the food the catering team serves. The Memory Café operates as a place to support members of the local community and those who live with memory loss to make new friends and memories in the process.
During the most recent Memory Café at Winifred Dell Care Home, Lifestyle Coordinator Clare organised a memory box activity, inviting people to spend the session decorating a memory box with their loved ones and friends. The memory box would be a place for residents to store sentimental items that prompt memories of people, places, and milestone moments.
Decorating the memory boxes proved popular with everyone who attended the memory café. Not only did the activity inspire people to get creative, but also made the memory boxes even more special as each was designed in partnership with a person they cherish.
As well as the opportunity to make something meaningful, people were served teas, coffees, cakes, and a variety of other tasty treats which made the event both enjoyable and relaxing.
