The residents at Glennfield Care Home in Wisbech took a trip down memory lane recently as they reminisced on VE day.
VE day is an important day for the people who live at Glennfield, as it marks the day the war came to an end. Many of the residents lived through this era and for them, VE day marks a momentous day when they were reunited with their families and life in Britain felt safe again. Traditionally, the day would be celebrated with street parties and people hanging British flags.
Due to the current restrictions, residents couldn’t celebrate in this way but did enjoy looking back at memorable moments from VE day and sharing their connected memories. This included listening back to Winston Churchill’s speech and watching videos of VE Day from 76 years ago!
Some of the residents remembered the day well whilst others enjoyed watching and learning about the memorable day.
In the theme of the day, residents also completed VE day word searches and decorated cakes with red, blue and white icing. To end the day in style, everyone enjoyed dancing along to the ‘Boogie Woogie’ song and showing off their moves!
Everyone had a great day reminiscing and celebrating how far society has come since VE day. We hope we can host traditional celebrations with the local community next year.
