Glennfield residents cook delicious homemade vegetable curry
Quite often at Glennfield Care Home, the residents love to chat about their favourite meals to prepare and cook. In particular, they enjoy discussing the food that they used to shop for, prep, as well as the various aromas and anticipation that go hand in hand with cooking their own recipes.
One of the residents named Terry used to love making a vegetable curry for others’, so Glennfield decided to bring in some ingredients especially to make it. Those at the home who have a love of cooking gathered round to participate with Terry in creating a lovely meal. Ingredients consisted of naan bread, rice, sweet corn, courgettes, peas, carrots, onions, mushrooms, potatoes and a Jalfrezi sauce. Everyone had a role to play whether it was chopping, mixing, chatting or being the head chef.
The curry was cooked by the residents in a slow cooker, and the aroma of the sweet curry made everyone very excited to taste it. The vegetable curry was a huge success and all plates were empty by the end of lunch. Residents said that the food was “absolutely delicious.”
Soon afterwards, it was ‘National Curry Week’ which is a highly anticipated event in the social calendar and gives residents and team members an excuse to revel in all things curry, which has been voted the nation's favourite dish! Celebrated each October, this day applauds the diverse culture in the UK. So for this week, Glennfield had many delicious curry dishes available to them on a daily basis.
For an activity, the residents put on their aprons and made Terry’s wonderful vegetable curry again, which for a second time was a massive success. The residents told the team that not only did it smell amazing, but the autumnal colour of the dish made it even more attractive to eat.
There were even some suggestions from residents for this to become a regular activity and meal at Glennfield as they get closer into the cold season, so Glennfield could be enjoying many more delicious home-made curry’s in the immediate future.
