The people living at Winifred Dell Care Home in Brentwood made some delicious fruit flans this week as part of a requested baking activity.
Every month, the team have a meeting with the people they care for to see what activities they are enjoying and to take any activity requests that people may have. In the latest meeting, many of the people living at Winifred Dell requested they have more cookery classes, so the team have been mixing these types of sessions into the activity schedule.
This week, the team planned a fruit flan making activity, so people could make a delectable dessert that they could enjoy after dinner.
First, everyone put on an apron and blue gloves to avoid getting messy. Next, the team placed pre-made flan bases on each table that people could fill with delicious fruit mixtures. Oranges and peaches were some of the fruits available that people could add to the bases. They also added a small amount of fruit juice on top for some added flavour!
The filled flan bases were then taken to the kitchen, where team members added ‘quick-jel’ to set the fruits in place and enhance the flavour of the dessert. There is a special way to do this to ensure the base doesn’t get soggy, but with many experienced bakers living at Winifred Dell, the team had lots of experts to turn to.
The flans were then left to set, ready to be served for dessert later in the day! Everyone had a great time making these fruit flans and look forward to making more delicious dishes soon!
