During a recent one-to-one session in the garden at Glennfield Care Home, Lifestyle Coordinator, Katie was talking to Frank about his life and his role as a firefighter!
Frank is incredibly proud of his 26 years of service to Kent Fire and Rescue and recalled lots of memories about his time in the role. Katie then showed Frank some pictures of an old Vivien fire engine she had recently spotted at the local fire station. Frank sat there and admired the truck in all its glory and said how impressive it was!
As the conversation was bringing back lots of fond memories, Katie asked Frank if he would like to take to go on a short walk to the local fire station to see if they could see the Vivien Fire Truck. Frank immediately accepted and said he would love to.
With the sun shining down, the pair set out to the local station. As they approached, Frank saw the training tower in the distance and recalled memories of his training for the fire service and how demanding it was both physically and mentally.
Although the Vivien wasn’t there and the crew were out attending a call, the pair took some pictures and knocked on the door to see if they could speak to someone. The station manager greeted them and happily listened to Frank as he shared stories about his time at Kent Fire and Rescue and the long service medal he received.
The station manager shared his respect for Frank, thanked him for his service and said he would gladly welcome Frank back soon for a tour of the station, so he could meet the crew and see their fire engines.
Frank was delighted to receive this offer and can't wait to go back for the tour!
