Many of the people living in our homes are big Elvis Presley fans, and enjoy having a dance to his music. Therefore, the team at Fitzwilliam Care Home in Cambridge made sure to celebrate what would have been Elvis’ 86 birthday in style.
Before lockdown, the team used to invite Pete Webb, a fantastic Elvis Tribute Artist to perform in the home from time to time. However, this is not possible at the moment, so they had to get creative.
They began the morning with an arts and crafts session; using a stencil and sponge to create some super effective Elvis pictures. Some decided to make them colourful and rainbow-like, whereas others chose minimal colours to keep it subtle. There have been many comments about the Elvis pictures and how beautiful they look, and the people living at the home are enjoying having them on display.
In the afternoon, the team presented everyone with Elvis’ favourite snack… Peanut butter and banana sandwiches! Some really enjoyed them, while others were not too keen. However, everyone could agree that it was quite an odd favourite and they brainstormed some nicer combinations.
Throughout the day, Elvis’ greatest hits were played throughout the home and the team were treated to many an Elvis impression from different residents. It was a great day with lots of fun throughout the home, and they are all excited for more celebrations as the year goes on.
