Today marks International Women’s Day; a global celebration dedicated to empowering women, recognising their accomplishments, and shedding light on the challenges they face in society.
At Excelcare, we celebrate and empower female members of our team, ensuring they feel safe, comfortable, and supported in their roles. With numerous training opportunities available, our objective is to facilitate people’s professional growth and development. Women constitute 83% of the social care workforce, underscoring the importance of providing ample support to our female colleagues.
Throughout the Excelcare family, various initiatives are in place to directly support women, such as our Menopause Matters webinars. These webinars offer a secure and nurturing environment where women can share experiences and seek advice from Chelsea Joyce, our Wellbeing and Engagement Partner.
Sam Manning, our Chief Operating Officer, provides a shining example of what is achievable for women within our company. With a 30-year career at Excelcare, Sam serves as an inspiration to her female peers, demonstrating how the company supports individuals in achieving their goals. Whilst reflecting this International Women’s Day, Sam said, “On International Women’s Day, I remember and thank the strong and inspirational women who have helped me to become the woman I am today. May each of you stand proud for being the supercalifragilistic woman that you are, one who is strong, beautiful, compassionate and inspires others to be just as incredible.”
We also asked our female workforce what it means to a valued part of the social care work force this International Women’s Day. Here are some of the responses we received:
“I feel social care is not a job, it is a calling. I feel it is so rewarding. When residents and families say ‘thank you’ for everything you have done, it makes everything worthwhile.”
“I feel a strong sense of purpose in improving the quality of life for vulnerable individuals. Knowing that my efforts contribute to someone's well-being can be incredibly fulfilling.”
“I have loved my journey within social care and I just wish I'd got involved within the sector sooner. Every single person deserves to have the support to grow older gracefully and with dignity.”
“Working in social care for me is about providing physical, emotional and social support to help people live their lives. For various reasons and at different stages in their lives, some people need support to develop and maintain their independence, dignity and control.”
“Working in social care is rewarding, as we help people that cannot do things for themselves, we make them happy, share in laughter, talk to them and care for them with dignity, respect and love, because we consider them as our family.”
“Being a woman working in social care means making a positive difference, whether that is by helping a colleague through a challenge, making a person we care for smile and laugh, or reassuring a relative and giving comfort when needed.”
Today, we want to share our heartfelt appreciation to our female team members for the incredible difference they make to the lives of the people who live in our care homes. Happy International Women’s Day!
