Dedicated team members from Glennfield Care Home in Wisbech have worked extremely hard throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to provide care and support to those who live there, while at the same time supporting each other through such an unprecedented time. A number of colleagues had also taken the brave and difficult decision to leave their families and remain in isolation with residents as they ‘cocoon’ together at the care home
They agreed to take this step to move into the home temporarily as a way to support their colleagues while also keeping the care home’s vulnerable residents as safe as possible. This helped the care home to form a protective bubble.
The whole team were left speechless as they received a flood of support packages from their colleagues in sister homes across the region. Teams from the other care homes in the area had banded together to create and send these support packages to the people working and living at the home, which were full of essential items, home comforts and sweet treats to help bring delight to the faces of both residents and team members.
This delivery not only contained items and products to aid day to day life at the home, but also personal notes from colleagues in the region sending positive messages. Some of the notes attached to the delivery included phrases to motivate and praise the brave team; ‘You are all truly amazing’ and ‘Never forget why you started’.
A special letter was also included in the delivery, which read, “This hamper has been put together and our arms are around you all. We may not be with you in person, but we are with you in spirit. You are all amazing and we send you love, strength, and well wishes.”
Everyone at the home was left speechless; incredibly grateful to receive such generous and thoughtful gifts, as they spoke about how much of a positive difference they would make during such a difficult time.
Excelcare’s first priority continues to be reducing the risk of COVID-19 spreading in care homes and we work hard each day towards preventing future outbreaks, to ensure the health and safety of our valued team members and residents.
We recognise that this is a difficult time for many residents and their families, and we hope that through the current efforts of our teams within all 33 of our care homes that we will soon see normality restored once again and families reunited.
This kind gesture is just one example of the wonderful teamwork going on throughout the Excelcare family which continue to amaze us each and every day.
