On Wednesday 3rd May, team members from across the Excelcare Family travelled to Braxted Park Estate in Essex for the group’s 2023 Inspiring Leadership Conference.
The objective of this conference was to give leaders a better understanding about some recent internal changes across the group and also to provide the team with updated knowledge around forthcoming legislation changes and work together throughout the day to develop new strategies and plan inspiring partnerships, to deliver improved outcomes to those who live and work in our homes, in order to continue achieving excellence. These objectives all feed back to their company vision and mission to make every day meaningful for ‘Mr Bailey’.
“Mr Bailey and his friends are always at the heart of the improvements we make, and the outstanding work we do across our Excelcare family” explains Chief Operating Officer, Sam Manning. “He represents the individual physical and emotional needs of each person who lives in an Excelcare home. I look forward to seeing how the valuable lessons and shared planning we have enjoyed at this conference will be introduced in each of our care homes to bring meaning, love and laughter to Mr Bailey and his friends.”
130 leaders from across the group, made up of Home Managers, Deputy & Care Managers, Team Leaders, and Regional Teams were in attendance to learn and discuss with Excelcare’s Senior Leadership Support Partners and their colleagues from Central Support Office.
The event began with each team member introducing themselves, their roles and how long they have been a part of the family. This exercise quickly established that many team members have celebrated 10, 15 and even 20-year anniversaries as part of the Excelcare family. It was an inspiring way to start the conference and showcase the years of experience in the room.
Excelcare’s Senior Leadership Team took to the stage to share their knowledge, recent updates from the sector and suggested adaptations to ensure Excelcare isn’t just meeting the requirements but surpassing and exceeding them!
Speakers engaged with the audience by hosting group workshops during their segments, which helped to promote partnership working, build understanding and highlight some areas that may have not been considered. This collaborative approach meant there were some important considerations and actions to be addressed after the conference, again, helping to build on outcome success across the group.
Another key theme to the day was bringing leaders from the group together, united as an Excelcare family, to give each person a platform to be heard; sharing their own ideas and inspiring each other. After a delicious buffet lunch, the Excelcare family took some time to enjoy the Spring sunshine as they headed outside to discuss in groups their own innovative ideas around responding to these changes.
As the teams regrouped indoors, each region was welcomed to the stage to pledge their own ‘outstanding outcome’ promises that would be put into practice in the coming months. This exercise shined a light on the many new innovative and positive changes leaders across the group wish to bring to their services, which will enhance the already successful contributions in different areas including governance, communications, care, quality, and wellbeing
Excelcare’s Chief Operating Officer, Sam Manning, then had a surprise in store for all attendees to help relax and unwind after a busy yet productive day. Mama G, a story telling pantomime dame entered the stage to entertain with her witty style and comical stories. Her engaging performance got everyone on their feet and helped to loosen them up after a long day.
Ozzie and Sam thanked the team for taking time away from their usual routines to join in on the day, with some inspiring closing statements.
“The focus of today has been around your leadership, and how as leaders you empower, embrace change, and inspire a positive and caring environment, whilst encouraging teamwork, innovation, and excellence,” said Sam. “You inspire to make a positive difference whilst fostering people’s choice, involvement, and outcomes that ensure people receive excellent care and a quality of life, focussed on what truly matters to them.
“Each of you live and breathe Excelcare, you each instil the true sense of family belonging, so thank you, to each of you, and a special thank you to our inspiring family head, Ozzie, for entrusting, empowering, and encouraging each of us.”
After closing statements from Sam and Ozzie, gifts were handed out to attendees before guests made their way home for a well-earned rest.
The Inspiring Leadership Conference was a huge success and left people feeling valued, motivated, and inspired.
