On Friday 18th November, the Excelcare family brought Christmas spirit to their local communities with a group Christmas Light Switch-On.
The Excelcare Family Christmas Light Switch-On has quickly become a tradition across the group, first occurring in 2020 as a virtual live-streamed event. The original event was created to spread some much-needed festive cheer and community spirit during the COVID-19 pandemic. Though people could not visit the home face-to-face, we wanted to include them in our Christmas celebrations.
Now, two years later, the Christmas Light Switch-On lives on, but this time our homes were fortunate enough to be joined in person by their family members and members of their local community.
The afternoon was filled with joy and plenty of mince pies as everybody gathered outside their local Excelcare home for the big moment. They watched a short video about the past few years at Excelcare before quickly joining in on a countdown from 10.
As the countdown finished and the clock struck 4:30pm, all Excelcare homes across the group switched on their Christmas lights in unison, making their areas a brighter and more festive place. It was a wonderful act of togetherness, and it was touching to know that we had all joined together for the same special moment.
The countdown was succeeded by a hearty Christmas carol karaoke session, and everybody joined in with a singalong to the festive classics ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’, ‘Deck the Halls’ and ‘Jingle Bells’.
It was an afternoon to be remembered, and our homes will be reminded of it all Christmas as their lights shine bright for all to see.
