At the beginning of May, St George’s Court resident, Ginger, was accompanied by Home Manager Emma to his granddaughter’s wedding.
The people who work at St George's Court know how important it is for families to be together, especially on special occasions like weddings, anniversaries and birthdays. Over the last two years, with restrictions stopping people from different households spending time together, it’s been challenging for people living in care homes to spend time with their families. Now the restrictions have eased and in-person time with family can resume, the team ensure they do all they can to facilitate this.
Shannon, who is Ginger’s granddaughter, recently told him that she would be getting married, and it was her wish to have her grandad at her wedding. Ginger was thrilled to hear Shannon was getting married and that she wanted him to be a part of her special day, so the team got to work to make this happen.
Home Manager, Emma, said she would happily escort Ginger to Shannon’s wedding and be on hand to provide support throughout the day. She wanted to ensure he had nothing to worry about, so he could focus on his granddaughter and enjoy the amazing day!
Ginger’s day started early by getting suited and booted for this important occasion. Ginger looked smart in a new suit and had a spring in his step as he made his way to the wedding venue.
Ginger was very much part of the day and his wife Megan was elated to have her husband at her side for such an important family occasion. Ginger was the life and soul of the party and was seen having a boogie on the dance floor after the first momentous dance with the bride. By the end of the dance with Shannon there wasn’t a dry eye in the room, as people shed emotional tears seeing the two of them share such a special moment.
Ginger said it was a busy and tiring day, but he didn’t want to leave! It was such a special day for Ginger and all his family. Seeing him there on the day was a wonderful surprise for everyone and they were delighted he could witness and be a part of such a memorable day.
