Team members at Dovecote Manor Care Home in Milton Keynes are always looking for new ways to deliver entertainment to the people who live in their care home so residents can benefit from a variety of immersive experiences.
Entertainment is usually delivered in a group setting, and residents who wish to join are assisted to the room in which the performance is taking place. However, delivering entertainment in this format doesn’t suit everyone’s needs, so, with the help of well-known entertainer, Bob Jack, the team recently introduced a new offering dubbed ‘bedside busking’.
This entertainment is performed on the move, meaning Bob doesn’t restrict his act to one space within the home - he roams around from room to room, visiting people where they are spending time, including people who are in their bedrooms.
Bob’s tuneful voice and the sounds of his acoustic guitar always strike the right chord with residents, and they always enjoy his performances.
This new style of entertainment has proved very popular with the people living at Dovecote. Hearing Bob singing their favourite songs as he makes his way down the hallway and from room to room raises smiles and gets everyone in good spirits, no matter where they are spending time.
Alongside Lifestyle Coordinator Nicola, bedside busking has become one of the most popular activities within the care home. Speaking about this new offering, Bob said, “Thanks so much Nicola for working with me to achieve so many smiles and small moments of happiness in the corridors and rooms of Dovecote Manor. I think we make a great team in all of this and I’m really looking forward to the next time. Thanks too for the great photos that capture these moments which were both exciting and emotional for both of us.’’
The team at Dovecote is very excited to see how bedside busking continues to develop and all the happy memories that are made.
