It was a weekend full of emotion and celebrations across the Excelcare Family when King Charles III was crowned on the 6th of May in a regal ceremony at Westminster Abbey.
Lots of the people we care for across the family admire the monarchy and the presence they have in our society. The unfortunate passing of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022 was an emotional day across the family, as people mourned the loss of a monarch who had been a symbol of reassurance and stability for much of their lives. Her life and service to the country was honoured across the group in lots of different ways to ensure her life’s work was remembered.
Some of the people living in Excelcare homes remember the moment Queen Elizabeth was crowned back in 1953 and were excited to witness King Charles III take the throne and lead our country.
In preparation for the big day, residents across the family spent time creating red, white and blue-themed decorations to put up around their home and accessories they could wear on the day. So residents could feel the presence of King Charles within their homes, lots of team members purchased life-size cut outs that people could pose for pictures with.
On the day of the coronation, lots of residents were up early in excitement to catch the start of the televised coronation. Seeing members of the royal family dressed in their regal attire brought back countless memories and lots of conversations were had about the connected stories each person had about the monarchy.
Throughout the day, each home across the Excelcare group celebrated in a different way. Some hosted royal-themed tea parties and invited entertainers for some patriarchal performances, whilst other homes got involved in events with the community. Relatives were invited to join residents and team members to enjoy this occasion with their loved ones. Kitchen teams across the family also used their skills to make delicious buffet lunches and beautifully decorated cakes.
It was a memorable day in which lots of fond memories were recalled and many happy memories were made. Click here to look at our coronation collage made up of pictures captured across the family.
