With the recent arrival of the sunny weather, the residents at Winifred Dell Care Home have enjoyed giving their garden a summer makeover.
Before the residents started the gardening, Lifestyle Coordinator, Clare went out to the local garden centre to gather some soil, new plants and an array of colourful flowers to fill them. These flowers included African Marigolds, Viola, Geraniums, Sweet Pea, Lobelia, Fuschias and Petunias.
The team then planned out where each of these plants would go. They decided the sweetpea would be planted near the trellis panels as they grow very quickly and would wind themselves around the wood. They decided the others would be mixed and scattered around the rest of the garden to create a dash of colour all around.
Before heading out into the garden, residents put on their sun cream and summer hats to stop them from getting burnt. They were also given aprons and gloves to stop them from getting too dirty.
Each person then took it in turns to plant different flowers around the garden to do their part in the summer makeover. Many of the residents are skilled gardeners as it’s something they have practiced throughout their lives, so this gave people the opportunity to reconnect with their hobby in the summer sun.
After all the plants were planted, the residents relaxed with their favorite cold drinks to unwind. They look forward to keeping the outdoor space maintained and watching all of the colourful flowers bloom in the coming weeks.
