Alan lives at Park Avenue Care Home in Bromley and has always had a passion for horse racing. From admiring the horses taking part to seeing them race to become champions - Alan loves it all!
Linda has been volunteering at Park Avenue for nine years and also shares a passion for horse racing, so during one of her recent visits, she took the time to sit with Alan and find out more about his love for horses.
Linda went on to ask Alan about his favourite horses and any memorable stallions he had seen race over the years. Alan then went on to speak about his favourite horse named Frankel. He told Linda that Frankel was a champion horse who had a strong record of success throughout his career.
By sheer coincidence, Linda knew the horse that Alan was talking about, as one of her friends used to work in the stables where Frankel now lives in retirement. She told Alan that although he no longer races, Frankel is a stud that produces successful horses with his winning bloodline.
Alan couldn’t believe that Linda had a connection with Frankel and enjoyed asking questions about his life and reminiscing about some of his best performances on the racecourse.
After this conversation, it was clear to Linda how much Alan loved Frankel, so she took it upon herself to source some books about him and even bought a cap with Frankel’s name on it. She then took these presents to Alan and his face was a picture of joy!
Alan couldn’t believe that Linda had surprised him with these gifts and was incredibly grateful to her. He wasted no time in putting the hat on and said he would be spending the day reading the books and finding out more interesting facts about his favourite racehorse.
