The people living at Winifred Dell Care Home recently celebrated National Conservation Day by taking a virtual trip to the zoo.
The residents of Winifred Dell love spending time with animals, as they provide feelings of comfort and help to bring back many fond memories. However, with no animals visiting the home on the day, the team organised the next best thing!
Using their interactive Tiny Tablet device, the team put on a video which took residents on a virtual tour of a zoo. This video got people up close and personal with the animals in the enclosures, which was also narrated throughout providing people with information about each of the animals they were seeing. Everyone enjoyed the pairing of the visuals and narration, as it made them feel like they were on a real-life safari.
Watching the video created lots of conversations about the animals, which were their favourites and the connected memories it brought back.
After talking about animals in all different habitats around the world, the discussion moved slightly closer to home when people began speaking about their favourite species of birds, butterflies and bees that they observe in the garden at Winifred Dell.
Although everyone agreed that animals prefer to be in the wild and live freely, they also said conservation is good as it helps to protect endangered species from hunters.
Residents enjoyed the day and said it was wonderful to see all of the animals.
