Windmill Lodge residents celebrate Nigerian Independence Day with a party
Those living at Windmill Lodge recently celebrated ‘Nigerian Independence Day’. To commemorate the event in style, both residents and team members decorated the care home with Nigerian flags and an assortment of themed bunting.
Some of the team members at Windmill Lodge were dressed in traditional Nigerian attire to celebrate the occasion, while others decided to dress in the colours of the Nigerian flag. On the lunch menu served for the day, there were several Nigerian dishes present, with their popular dish of ‘Jollof rice’ as the main course.
Residents really enjoyed taking part in an afternoon party at the home, during which they especially loved dancing along to the Nigerian music that was being played. Many of the residents told the team that they “really liked the different style of music,” as well as the attires that they had worn especially for that day. Not to mention the food, which one resident described as “absolutely delicious.”
Towards the end of the party, residents Shirley and Iris wanted to try on the Nigerian head tie that Senior Team Leader, Precious had brought along with her. After they tried it on, Precious told the ladies that they both looked beautiful in the head tie. Many of the residents were very happy to give their praise to the event. Residents William and Eddy both said that “the decorations looked fantastic”, and that Lifestyle Coordinator, Susan had done a very good job at giving the home such an immersive Nigerian experience.
The day was certainly a huge success and Windmill Lodge looks forward to seeing what the next cultural occasion to celebrate will be.
