Last week the people living at Windmill Lodge Care Home in Brixton had a condolence afternoon tea, to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s passing.
The residents used this opportunity to toast the Queen, sharing their experiences of her time on the throne as they tucked into some of her favourite treats. These included scones, cupcakes, Tunnocks cakes and other chocolatey treats.
Trevor, one of the men living at the home, used to be a Grenadier in the brass band section. He used this opportunity to share his stories about every time that he has performed for the Queen, who would listen from her balcony. Trevor said that the Queen had ears for music, and he treasures his time with the Grenadiers greatly.
Antony, another resident at the home, recalls watching the coronation on television when he was thirteen years old. On talking about her ruling, he said “the Queen was a very good woman. She represented this country very well.”
Everyone at the home has been very sad since the news of the Queen’s passing, but this was a wonderful opportunity to honour her and reminisce on all of the good that she did for this country. They look forward to seeing how King Charles III continues this legacy.
