Some of the people living at Westport Care Home in Stepney Green recently had a wonderful day out, visiting Blue Gate Fields Junior School.
The team at Westport know just how important intergenerational connection is, especially for the people in the home. It allows people of different generations to share their knowledge and build connections, providing cognitive stimulation and promoting positive wellbeing.
So, the team took residents Kathleen, Phillipa and Teresa to Blue Gate Fields Junior School, a local primary school in the area. The school children were very excited to meet the three of them and welcomed them with big smiles on their faces!
The visits took place over a series of days, with each day bringing new adventures and activities. The first day that they visited, the children presented Kathleen, Phillipa and Teresa with storybooks that they had made by hand, sharing the stories of their lives with the residents. The ladies had a wonderful time reading through these and thought that they were truly special.
On the last day, the children delivered a short performance based on the stories that Kathleen, Phillipa and Teresa had shared with them. The three ladies were so touched by this performance, and thought that it was wonderful to see just how much the children had listened and taken in.
Whilst saying goodbye, the Westport residents were presented with a beautiful bunch of flowers each, which they thanked the children for profusely.
Phillipa, Teresa and Kathleen had a wonderful time and said that they were made to feel like visiting celebrities. The team at Westport hope to work with Blue Gate Fields Junior School again in the future, as this was such a wonderful and rewarding experience!
