Last month, the people living at Peartree Care Home in Sydenham had an exciting visit from Emily from Zoolab.
Zoolab is a company that provides animal therapy visits, which have been shown to help stimulate and engage people whilst also promoting mental wellbeing. The team know how much the people living at the home love an animal friend, so a visit from Zoolab was definitely on the cards!
After going through the various safety measures, Emily offered everyone the chance to pet the animals while she went through a variety of interesting facts. The first animal presented to the group was a corn snake, which had a soft smooth texture. Some showed no fear at all and happily held the snake themselves, whereas others preferred to watch from a distance, which is very understandable.
Next up was a Giant African Millipede, which Emily explained was still not at its biggest. Apparently, the Millipedes can grow even larger and have up to 400 little legs! Finally, they were presented with the instantly popular Albino rat. Everyone was so intrigued by the rat’s eyes as they were see-through and the blood vessels behind were exposed, making the eyes appear a pinky red colour! It was also very friendly and had a soft, fluffy body.
There were so many smiles and so much laughter throughout the session, and the team at the home declared that they will definitely have another session like this in the future! They cannot wait to meet some new animals next time, whilst also reuniting with their current friends.
