Love was in the air in Cambridgeshire this weekend, with each of the homes pulling out all the stops to make the people living in them feel as special as possible this Valentine’s Day.
The people living in Aliwal Manor Care Home had been feeling the love for the whole week. They enjoyed making Valentine’s Day bunting, cutting out lots of love hearts and eating some beautiful looking Valentines cakes, prepared by their lovely chef Steve. Everyone at Etheldred House Care Home also got creative with their decorations! They made some artistic cards from an assortment of materials, turning them into hearts and flowers. They also decorated a Valentine’s Day tree. One of the residents, Peggy, asked if she could make some chocolate for Valentines Day, so the Lifestyle Coordinators gathered some heart and flower shaped chocolate moulds, and a heart shaped box for her to put them in once they were set.
Many other homes delved into some arts and crafts. Residents at Hunters Down Care Home made 3D cards of hot air balloons to place handmade clay hearts in. These were all posted out to their families in time for the big day. Rheola Care Home made heart shaped cards, and received a special surprise from Yvonne’s family, who made some personal Valentine’s biscuits for everyone to enjoy.
There were hearts in the eyes of residents at Brook House and St Georges Court! Brook House Care Home was excited to take part in a Mojo activity, which consisted of decorating cut out love hearts with lots of different materials before sticking them onto tree branches to take the place of leaves. The people living at St Georges Court Care Home created some origami love hearts. They had never done origami before and Helen said that she really enjoyed watching the folds transform into a heart.
All of our teams made sure everybody was cared for on the big day, with every person at Buchan House Care Home being gifted a card, love heart biscuit and a huge variety of chocolates. Similar was done at Primrose Croft Care Home, where everyone received a red rose and some chocolates. They thought this was wonderful and said that they felt very special.
Loved ones and team members weren’t the only ones sharing the love this season! The people living at Glennfield Care Home had a wonderful surprise when they received some cute teddy bears from Morrisons in Wisbech! The team said that it was lovely to see the warm smiles from everyone when they first saw the bears and realised that they were for them. The bears have now been individually named for each person. Similarly, the team at Fitzwilliam Care Home received a wonderful hamper from a young man called David Cumbers. He had done some fundraising to buy lots of chocolate goodies from the team, which they all greatly appreciated!
