Residents living in Excelcare homes receive weekly visits from hairdressers to get their hair cut, styled and keep them feeling fresh. This is an enjoyable weekly session for all, as visiting hairdressers build close relationships with the residents and become someone they can laugh and share stories with.
With the outbreak of Coronavirus limiting people to their homes, visiting hairdressers have had to cancel their usual appointments so sessions in the salon have had to be put on hold.
Knowing how this could impact the residents and their wellbeing, team members have been bringing out their hidden talents and taking on roles they wouldn't usually do at the home.
Some of the Cambridge based care homes have been embracing this and held hairdressing sessions at the homes this week, to ensure the resident's schedules weren't disrupted.
At Aliwal Manor, carers Shannon and Vicky have been washing and styling the resident's hair. Held at the in-house salon, residents said it's made them feel special having a catch up too!
At Rheola Care Home, the Deputy Manager, Susan has been washing hair too as well as doing blow drys and hair curling. All of the residents are looking their best and are "Grateful for all the team are doing".
At Brook House, resident Jean hasn't let her spirits get dampened and decided to have her hair coloured pink. Team members at the home happily helped out and she's now chuffed as it matches her handbag.
These salon sessions have made everyone feel special and boosted wellbeing amongst all involved. It's important to help each other where we can during these uncertain times to keep others feeling positive.
Well done to all team members who have shown off their hidden talents to keep the residents looking and feeling great!
