The team from Hunters Down had a wonderful idea to welcome the new year at the home. With visits from relatives limited, the team wanted to host an activity that would keep people to connected to their loved ones from a distance.
To do this, they decided to plan an afternoon tea that relatives could join in with. To get them involved, each resident created a card, with a loving message inside and details about the tea party. They planned to sit down for a cup of 3 pm and inside the card asked their loved ones to join. Before sending the card off, they each attached a teabag to their card for their loved one to use.
The aim behind this session was to have people engaged in a shared activity, knowing their loved ones were doing the same and thinking of them too. The session was named, ‘Tea at three’.
Tea at three was a huge success at Hunters Down and residents said their tea tasted that much sweeter knowing their loved ones were also having a cuppa.
Although they couldn’t be together, knowing they were joining in with tea at three from home provided great comfort for the people living at Hunters Down.
One family member who took part in the session said, “what a wonderful idea it was. It certainly helped me in this difficult time. The staff have been amazing and thoughtful. When I received the card from my dad, it brought tears of delight as I could not remember the last time I received a card from him. It really is the little things that make such an impact.”
