The people living at Queen’s Oak Care Home in London were recently delighted when they received a selection of hand-made Christmas Cards from the Charter School in North Dulwich.
Queen’s Oak have close links with many local groups, schools and businesses who, in usual times, would visit the home and join in with activity sessions. Maintaining these links is important as the people of Queen’s Oak like to play an active part in their community and also a role in the lives of local children.
With visitation to the home limited during this pandemic, they have had to find other ways of staying in touch with them. This has mainly been in the form of letters and cards they make at the home. This helps to maintain the relationships they have developed and continue the personal fulfilment they get from hearing about the latest subjects the students have been learning about.
So when the people of Queen’s Oak received handmade cards and letters from the children of Charter School, they were delighted. The cards contained drawings and artwork they had done as well as some special messages inside, with Christmas wishes and hopes for the future.
Everyone enjoyed passing the cards the around, admiring the art and reading the messages inside. It certainly lifted the Christmas spirit at the home and inspired residents to create a card of their own to send back.
With the help of the team, they collaborated to create a large card, signed by all the residents with a hand-drawn Christmas design on the front.
Thanks to the children from Charter School for all of the cards, they certainly spread many smiles at Queen’s Oak.
