Ahead of the Christmas break, team members from Excelcare’s Central Office encouraged team members at each care home to put on a Christmas pantomime for the residents. With visitation limited to the homes and entertainers not able to host sessions as they usually would, these pantomimes would allow for some fun Christmas entertainment from the team that care for them each day.
At Stanley Wilson Lodge in Essex, Lead Lifestyle Coordinator, Gina decided to write a pantomime tailored to likes of the residents of the home. She based this on Cinderalla but set after the war in 1940. She called this pantomime, ‘Cindy and her Fella’.
Some of the names of residents at the home featured in the pantomime as well as familiar names of local places and pubs.
Gina played the part of Cindy Rella and her colleague, Sue played the parts of Mrs buttons and Mick, with Andrea narrating throughout.
The pantomime was filled with familiar songs too, giving residents in the audience the opportunity to sing along with the team. These songs included, ‘A Windmill in Old Amsterdam ‘, ‘The Lambeth Walk’ as well as some old pub songs. To finish off the pantomime, Gina sang a solo rendition of ‘Love and Marriage’, ending with Mick and Cindy living happily ever after.
Those living at the home gave the team a big clap. You could tell by the smiles around the room that everyone enjoyed the pantomime and appreciated the effort the team put into the show.
Well done to the team at Stanley Wilson Lodge for working hard to create an enjoyable show for the people living at the home. The commitment and dedication you show to caring and keeping these people entertained is always inspiring to see.
