Residents of Sherrell House Care Home in Chigwell recently visited Sapphire Ice and Leisure to have a dip in the pool.
The team and residents of Sherrell House are all very familiar with this leisure centre, as they visited earlier in the year to have a go at ice skating. The team at the centre welcomed each person with a smile and were very supportive of their needs, so they decided to return to try out the swimming facilities.
Many of the people who attended the swimming session hadn’t been in a while, some because of their limited mobility. But with facilities that supported individuals with physical disabilities, these people were able to attend and enjoy some time in the pool.
Margaret, who lives at Sherrell House, used to be a swimming teacher, so she enjoyed sharing some tips with her friends to improve their swimming skills and also some movements they could do in the water for some light exercise.
Residents really enjoyed swimming and splashing around the pool. For many, this brought back memories of attending swimming lessons when they were young and from times they would take their children to the local leisure centre for a dip. Many happy stories were shared, sparking conversations and smiles amongst the team and residents in attendance.
After tiring themselves out in the pool, the group then got ready and headed to the café for a well-earned hot drink.
It was an enjoyable day for the whole group, and they were all very grateful to the team at Sapphire Ice and Leisure for supporting them throughout their visit.
It’s safe to say they’ll be returning soon!
