The people living at Sherrell House Care Home recently headed out into the community for another fun activity afternoon. Following the success of their ice-skating trip last month, the team organised another fun-filled adventure.
When the group arrived at the bowling alley they were all really excited. Some people hadn’t been bowling in a while, whilst for others, this was a completely new experience.
After slipping on their bowling shoes and choosing their preferred bowling balls, residents took a seat in the alley and waited for their turn. Some of the people in attendance have limited mobility, so they opted for support from the bowling ramp, whilst some people impressed by bowling the traditional way. Sidney was one person who bowled the traditional way and got cheers from his friends as he scored not only one, but two strikes in a row!
As people took their turns, residents waiting enjoyed speaking with their friends and engaging with people they don’t see regularly who live in different suites. During these conversations, some new friendships were formed and lots of laughs were shared.
After finishing their bowling game, residents stopped at the arcade to play some of the exciting games on offer. This included some shooting games and racing games which raised smiles amongst the group. For some, playing the games brought back memories of taking their children to the arcades when they were young.
Before heading back, Sidney 'the king of strikes' said, “I had a great time with this young lot. I remember when I used to take my children bowling, so it brought back some great memories. I was surprised how well I took to the game - I got 3 strikes in total! I had a great day enjoying the bowling and the video games, including my 2 pints of beer - of course!”
Due to the success of the trip and positive feedback from residents, the team has booked a return trip next month!
