Shelly from Extend Chair Exercises recently visited the people living at Glennfield Care Home to deliver a seated exercise session.
Shelly makes these sessions entertaining by introducing props into the class and playing music in the background. Balls and hoops are just some of the items she uses to encourage light movement amongst the people living at Glennfield and to make the session fun! When people are throwing and catching balls, they just see it as having fun with friends, but the movement involved in throwing a ball provides stimulation to muscles and improves circulation.
During this recent session, Shelly brought the energy with her and got everyone in the room smiling before even turning on the music. She then began to lead the group in different arm and leg movements, trying to keep them in time with the music.
She then introduced different props into the session and tested out people’s hand-eye coordination by throwing balls in the air to see if they could catch them. Shelly is a very encouraging person so if someone mis-catches or drops the ball, she’ll always invite them to try again.
Rose, who lives at Glennfield said, “It’s so nice to see Shelly, I really enjoyed the session.”
Shelly will certainly be back soon to deliver more enjoyable exercise sessions at Glennfield!
