On Monday 25th September a group of team members from Rheola Care Home in Cambridge participated in the “Shine Night Walk”, held by Cancer Research UK.
Home Manager Lizzie, Deputy Manager Susan and Team Leader Sally all chose to participate in this walk as it raises money for a cause that touches their hearts. Susan sadly lost her Mum, Dad, Sister and Brother-In-Law to cancer, and Lizzie lost her Grandma and Uncle. So, the ladies were very passionate about getting involved and raising some money.
The ladies got themselves all dressed up in black leggings, blue Cancer Research T-shirts and purple tutus, ensuring that they looked the part. The outfits garnered quite a bit of attention on their train into London, but when people saw the Cancer Research logo on the T-shirts, they were met with smiles of admiration.
The evening started with a reading of some inspirational stories, followed by a minute’s silence to reflect on everyone who has suffered from cancer. Then, they set off on the night walk, determined to make a difference for everyone. The support was amazing, with Lizzie saying that “even a taxi driver stopped in the road to pass over some sponsor money”. Everyone was tired by the time they were done but agreed that it was so rewarding to take part, and the feeling of a job well done helped lift the aches and pains away.
Between the three of them, the Rheola team managed to raise an amazing £750 for Cancer Research UK! Lizzie, Susan and Sally are so grateful to everyone that sponsored them and are happy that they could do something to help.
