Due to the current pandemic causing disruptions across the UK, it means care homes, their planned activities and visitors have also been affected.
Excelcare homes usually receive monthly visits from a variety of entertainers to keep people engaged in group activity and enjoying life at the home. So during this period of limited visitation, residents have been engaging with some of their favourite hobbies and games from the past.
People have been writing letters to their loves ones, bringing back memories from when this was their main method of communication with friends and family. Some of the resident at Queens Oak Care Home have also enjoyed re-engaging with the past, by playing some traditional games, like Jenga.
For the residents, it's a simple yet enjoyable game that also creates tension and excitement.
Vera, a resident at Queen's Oak, enjoyed building the block tower at the care home this week, before playing with some of her friends. They had a chat and a good laugh whilst playing together. It brought back connected memories from when they were children and created a conversation about their other favourite childhood games.
Although a simple game, the residents had an enjoyable time together and forgot all about the uncertainties in the world outside.
The residents at Queens Oak Are keeping positive and not forgetting that ultimately, the most important thing is looking after each other.
