The residents and team members at Goldenley Care Home have been keeping up with the news and developments about COVID-19. They've been listening to the announcements and interested to see how people are reacting.
Residents have also taken notice of the schemes that people are taking part in to stay positive. They have generously received letters and donations from members in the community, with messages of support and love to keep up their spirits. So the residents wanted to take part in something and encourage people to stay positive, stay safe and stay home.
One of the schemes they have seen is the Rainbow Trail, which encourages people to display rainbow pictures in their windows with kind messages on. Then during daily exercise, people are challenged to count the number of rainbows they see.
The people living at Goldenley take part in arts and craft activities frequently and really enjoy getting creative, so they needed little guidance and set about creating some colourful rainbow art. As they painted, the residents went through the rainbow song and tried to remember to colour order. "Red and yellow and pink and green, purple and orange and blue, I can see a rainbow, see a rainbow, see a rainbow too."
Before long, there were some colourful creations on the tables. To complete them, positive message were added before being left to dry.
This activity combined one of the residents' favourite activities, arts and crafts, with a positive scheme to spread happiness in the community. It's helped them to better understand the wider pandemic and be a positive force by encouraging people to stay safe inside.
Faith, Goldenley's Lifestyle Coordinator, took the pictures when they were dry and displayed them in the reception window. Rainbows and colourful notes of kindness are now brightening the entrance to Goldenley Care Home - we hope it brings a few smiles
