The people living at Primrose Croft Care Home in Cambridge had lots of fun celebrating National Bald Head Day on Monday 13th September.
The team thought that this national day brought about the perfect opportunity to link in with the upcoming NAPA Arts in Care Homes Day. So, they gave each resident a drawing of a bald man and some colourful crayons, pencils and felt tips, and encouraged them to draw as many different types of hairstyles as they could onto the heads.
Everyone laughed as they saw each other’s wacky styles, and then these were all cut out and stuck together on some paper and added to the arts wall in the home’s hallway.
During the activity everyone tried to think of famous bald men. One popular mention was Kojak (Telly Savalas) and got everyone talking about how he used to suck a lollipop on the show. This then prompted everyone to sing the lollypop song, as well as watch some clips of Kojak to remind them of the show.
Another bald actor who got a mention was Yal Brynner, who played the king of Mongkut of Siam in The King and I. After some research, everyone found out that he shaved his head specifically for the role, but then continued to keep shaving it after, opting to wear a wig for future roles that required hair.
The home finished the day by listening to some songs and poems about baldness, which made everyone giggle. They talked about bald men looking very distinguished, and some residents even said they think baldness makes men look more attractive!
