The green-fingered residents of Ashlyn Care Home were back in out in the garden this week, breathing some life into their outdoor space.
The Garden Club is a popular group at Ashlyn and its members are in charge of potting, planting and watering the garden. It's something they all take great pride in, making sure it's always an appealing place to be.
With the sun shining down, The Garden Club said it would be the perfect opportunity to plant some fresh flowers. The team thought it was a great idea and already had some plants that needed to be potted, so they gathered them together and left them with the residents to work their magic.
The gardeners at Ashlyn are good at what they do and most have practised the hobby for most of their life, so they need little guidance from team members during these sessions. In fact, they usually learn a thing or two, as the residents know many tips and tricks to get the best results.
Gardening at Ashlyn also helps to bring back memories from the past. Many social occasions and family events are held in the garden, so time in the fresh air tending to the plants gives people time to reflect on these special memories. It was especially enjoyed this week, as the Coronavirus pandemic has kept most of us inside. Luckily, the garden allows for safe, outdoor activities and this recent session was certainly a success.
The outdoor space at Ashlyn is now looking summer-ready and will be the perfect place to spend time with friends or relax with a book. The recently planted vegetables are also starting to sprout, so the residents will enjoy watching as they grow and get used in home recipes in the coming months.
