Peartree Care Home in Sydenham is home to people from all different walks of life, cultures and faiths. It’s a diverse community that takes pride in celebrating the cultures of their peers and learning about their different upbringings.
The team is also made of people from a variety of different backgrounds, so they understand the importance of introducing activities and meals that celebrates each person’s culture.
One of the most recent activities that has been introduced to the people who live at Peartree is dominoes. Although this game was invented in China, people of Caribbean culture have since put their own spin on it and it's proven popular with people who live in Jamaica.
There are lots of people living at Peartree who are from Jamaica, so the team thought introducing this game to social sessions would not only be enjoyable but bring back memories too.
Since being introduced, there have been many games of dominoes at Peartree. People enjoy having a cuppa and a chat as they sit and play games with their friends. Some people remember playing dominoes with their families during their younger years and have recalled some of these special moments.
Keith, Tyron, David and Gloria all share the same love for the game and can regularly be found in the lounge playing together.
The team at Peartree will continue to introduce new activities and games from around the world to help build connections and introduce people to other cultures.
