Residents of Queen’s Oak Care Home enjoyed a music therapy session with their friends this week. These types of sessions allow residents to socialise with friends, listen to some of their favourite songs and reflect on the memories they each bring forward.
Music is a powerful reminiscence tool, so team members host these sessions regularly and encourage people to take part.
Ahead of the session, team members poured residents their favourite hot drinks and placed a chessboard on the table that people could play if they wished.
A selection of musical favourites from the 50s, 60s and 70s were played throughout the session. Residents began singing, dancing and clapping along which was wonderful to see. Music is great for individual wellbeing and getting lost in the songs made for a wonderful afternoon at the home.
As they sipped their drinks, many connected stories were shared, helping to strengthen bonds between the people we care for.
It was wonderful to see everyone having a good time and enjoying the session together.
Everyone left with a smile on their face and looking forward to the next session.
