Denise is a resident at Hunters Down Care Home in Cambridge. Like many of the other residents, she has lots of interesting stories that she likes sharing with her friends, but one of her most memorable happened at the care home recently when she met her former colleague and friend, Mary.
Mary is the Regional Head of Care, who oversees several homes in the Cambridge Region.
Back in 1980, when Mary was training to be a Nurse at the Old County Hospital, she met a lovely lady called Denise. Denise was a Staff Nurse at the time and helped to support Mary while she was learning.
The pair got on really well and became good friends. Mary even made Denise's wedding cake in 1981, which was a stunning, detailed, two-tier design. This earned Mary the title 'Wedding Cake Mary'
In the two years they worked together, Mary and Denise made some special memories, but unfortunately lost touch when they went to work at different hospitals.
Mary has always remembered Denise and the memories they share, but she never thought they'd see each other again. This was until recently when Mary was having a conversation with the team at Hunters Down about some of the people moving in and heard the name Denise R.
Although they hadn't spoken for years, Mary remembered the name and wondered if it could be her friend from those years. After telling colleagues about her connection to Denise, Mary headed down to see if it was really her.
Denise was surprised to see it was in fact 'Wedding Cake Mary' when she entered her room. Mary was surprised too and very happy to see Denise again. They had a lot to catch up on since their last meeting, so a cup of tea and chat was well overdue.
Seeing Mary has helped Denise ease into life at the care home and having a friendly face around has boosted her confidence too!
