Last week, the residents at Primrose Croft took part in a range of wellbeing activities to celebrate Mental Health Awareness week.
Maintaining your mental health is just as important as your physical health, especially during these unusual times, so team members wanted to start the conversation and get everyone engaged in the topic.
Activities throughout the week aimed to improve not only the resident’s personal wellbeing, but others in the community too. With all the recent help, support and donations the care home has received, they were all excited to give back and share some of this positivity with local heroes’.
Early in the week, residents wrote some letters to people living locally, to share stories, positive thoughts and put smiles on their faces. Each letter was filled with motivational quotes that they had come up with and messages of hope for the future. Mabel a resident at the home, created a colourful ‘rainbow rose’ to send out with the letters and compliment the kind words included.
The letters were delivered to 20 homes in the local area with the hopes they spread some joy.
As well as supporting the wellbeing of others, the residents have been focusing on their own wellbeing and taking steps on a daily basis to improve it.
Chair based exercises led by CEO, Ozzie have been enjoyed each day. Recorded on video, Ozzie takes the group through a series of seated exercises with the help of rainbow dance creator, Bailey Manning. These sessions have been well enjoyed at Primrose Croft and the residents have felt the positive benefits of taking part in light daily exercises.
Other small acts of kindness have been noticed around the home, between the people living there and without prompt.
Peggy, a resident at Primrose Croft gave a packet of her favourite sweets to Mabel as she had run out. It was a nice little surprise for Mabel and made Peggy feel good too.
Looking out for your personal wellbeing is just as important as looking out for others. Celebrating Mental Health Awareness week and keeping wellbeing as a focus helped to improve the mood around the home. The small acts of kindness have also continued and encouraged other residents to do the same!
