The COVID-19 vaccine is currently being rolled out across care homes in the UK, and some of our homes have already begun the vaccination process. Today, Head of Business Improvement, Samantha Crawley, and London’s Regional Quality and Risk Manager, Louise Bouthemy, were among the first of our London team to receive their vaccinations.
The vaccines are being distributed on a priority basis, the order of which is determined by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI). It has been recommended that the NHS offers these vaccines first to those at highest risk of being infected by the virus, including older adults, frontline health and social care workers, care home residents and team members, and those with certain clinical conditions.
It is administered in two doses; the first one shown to provide protection for up to three months, and the second one administered 12 weeks after. Samantha and Louise received their first dose of the vaccine today at Princess Royal Hospital in London.
Both team members were feeling positive as they attended their vaccination appointments, Louise Bouthemy even assuring everybody with a thumbs up as she underwent the process. Samantha said that they “are both honoured to be among some of the first of our London team to receive their vaccinations. These vaccinations are a sign of hope and progress, and hopefully the beginning of the end of such an unprecedented period.”
We look forward to the continued rollout of the COVID-19 vaccines and are glad that we are able to take these steps towards protecting our team members and residents against Coronavirus.
