Love to Move is a chair-based exercise scheme developed by the British Gymnastic Society, that aims to deliver light, chair-based exercise sessions for the elderly.
Hunters Down Care Home was one of the first to pilot the scheme when Pearl was the Lifestyle Coordinator. Since then, care homes across the group have taken up the scheme and host regular sessions with the residents. Some have visiting instructors to lead the class, while other Excelcare homes have qualified love to move instructors on-site, like Pearl.
While some of the care homes are still waiting for their own team members to qualify, Pearl decided to host a live-streamed love to move session, so residents in care homes across the group could take part if they wished.
She took the residents through a series of basic moves targeting different areas of the body. These help to improve blood circulation, develop muscle strength and increase independence. Team members and residents were tuning in from around the group and commenting where they were watching from. It was really effective and the residents loved taking part with their friends across the Excelcare group.
With people limited to their homes during this period, this virtual session made it possible for residents to maintain their activity levels and engage with a regular session they enjoy.
Due to the success of the session, Pearl is hosting another via Facebook live this afternoon, helping to keep residents safe, active and entertained.
