Stanley Wilson Lodge Care Home in Saffron Walden recently formed a gentlemen’s club. This club provides an opportunity for the men to come together, play games and enjoy a cold beer.
For many of the men who live at Stanley Wilson, the pub has been a social hub throughout their lives where they met up with friends and put the world to rights! This is something instilled in their character, and they still enjoy a chin wag and social drink with their friends to this day.
That’s why the gentlemen’s club was formed, and it continues to be a roaring success with residents!
During their latest meeting, the team organised a game of beer bingo in the garden. This involved team members giving our bingo cards, but instead of numbers, they had names of beers written on them. This made it more interesting for the gents and hearing the names of different beers brought back memories from the past.
Some people remembered tasting some of the beers on the cards, whilst for others, it brought back memories of brewing their own beer! The men enjoyed sharing these stories with their friends and also listening to the information team members read out about each beer as it was called.
Paul said taking part in the game took him back to when he ran ‘The White Horse Pub’. This was a memorable period in Paul’s life and he enjoyed sharing some of the stories he had from this time.
Although this was a beer-themed game and beers were served, alternatives were available for the gents who wanted a soft drink.
Everyone really enjoyed this recent meeting and can't wait for the next, which is going to be themed around pirates.
