Sensory activities are popular with the residents at Brook House Care Home. Not only are they enjoyable and challenging, but also stimulate senses and aid with reminiscence too.
For those who live with dementia, sensory activities help to ease feelings of anxiety and boost their mood.
Jean, who lives near to Brook House, has spent her extended time at home making sensory items to gift to residents of the home. Handmade goods are always popular with residents as they find comfort in knowing someone has made them especially for them.
She recently delivered the colourful blankets she had been sewing. Everyone was overwhelmed with her generosity and thankful for thinking of them during these unprecedented times.
It was easy to tell Jean had put lots of thought into creating these blankets, as she had stitched on items for the residents to interact with. This included part of a tie, a section of a shirt with buttons, a pocket and a pocket square, which people could tuck into the shirt. These items help to bring back memories for the residents too and give them something fun to do whilst they relax.
We would like to thank Jean for the kindness and thought that went into making these blankets. They have been very popular with the residents and have helped to provide comfort to many.
